Systems of Nonlinear Equations: Problems with Solutions

Systems of second- and higher-degree equations: substitution, symmetric and homogeneous systems, exponential, logarithmic and irrational systems, with solutions.

Problem 1
If [tex](x, y)[/tex] is a solution of the system [tex]\left\{\begin{array}{l} x^2+xy=15 \\ y^2+xy=10 \end{array}\right.[/tex], find the value of [tex](x+y)^2[/tex].
Problem 2
The sum of the areas of the squares constructed on two adjacent sides of a rectangle is [tex]116[/tex] square feet, and the sum of the perimeters of these squares is [tex]56[/tex] feet. Find the area of the rectangle in square feet.
Problem 3
How many solutions does the system [tex]\left\{\begin{array}{l} x(x-2y)=0 \\ x^2-y^2-3y=0 \end{array}\right.[/tex] have?
Problem 4
Solve the system [tex]\left\{\begin{array}{l} x^2+y^2-5x-y=0 \\ 2x^2-3y^2+x+3y=3 \end{array}\right.[/tex]
Problem 5
Solve the system [tex]\left\{\begin{array}{l} xy-3y=x^2+x-12 \\ y^2-xy+x+y-2=0 \end{array}\right.[/tex]
Problem 6
Solve the system [tex]\left\{\begin{array}{l} \frac{x}{y}-\frac{y}{x}=\frac{5}{6} \\ x^2-y^2=5 \end{array}\right.[/tex]
Problem 7
Over a distance of [tex]400[/tex] feet, the front wheel of a cart makes [tex]10[/tex] more turns than the rear wheel. If the circumference of the front wheel were [tex]40[/tex] inches larger and the circumference of the rear wheel were [tex]40[/tex] inches smaller, then over the same distance the two wheels would make the same number of turns. Find the circumference of the front wheel in inches.
