Binomial Probability and Bernoulli Trials: Problems with Solutions

Repeated independent trials: exactly k, at least k and at most k successes, "at least once in n tries", the number of tries needed and the most probable number of successes.

Problem 1
A box contains [tex]3[/tex] balls of different colors: a white, a green and a red one. A ball is drawn, its color is noted and it is put back into the box. This is repeated [tex]10[/tex] times. What is the probability that the red ball is never drawn?
Problem 2
The probability that a child in a certain family is blond is [tex]\frac{1}{3}[/tex], independently for each child. The family has [tex]4[/tex] children. What is the probability that exactly half of them are blond?
Problem 3
Two equally strong chess players play games that cannot end in a draw, and each of them wins each game with probability [tex]\frac{1}{2}[/tex], independently of the other games. Let [tex]P_4(3)[/tex] be the probability that the first player wins exactly [tex]3[/tex] of [tex]4[/tex] games, and [tex]P_8(5)[/tex] the probability that he wins exactly [tex]5[/tex] of [tex]8[/tex] games. Which of the two events is more probable?
Problem 4
The probability that an automatic machine produces a good-quality item is [tex]0.9[/tex], independently of the other items. What is the probability that exactly [tex]4[/tex] of [tex]6[/tex] randomly selected items are of good quality?
Problem 5
A basketball player takes a series of [tex]5[/tex] free throws. On each throw he scores with probability [tex]0.9[/tex], independently of the other throws. What is the probability that he scores on at least [tex]4[/tex] of the throws?
Problem 6
A fair coin is tossed [tex]11[/tex] times. What is the probability that heads comes up at most [tex]4[/tex] times?
Problem 7
We toss [tex]100[/tex] fair coins at the same time. What is the probability that exactly [tex]50[/tex] of them land heads?
Problem 8
A test contains [tex]100[/tex] questions, each with [tex]4[/tex] possible answers, exactly one of which is correct. A student answers every question by guessing, choosing one of the four answers at random. What is the probability that he answers exactly [tex]90[/tex] questions correctly?
