What you can type

Type a problem the way you would say it, or as math. The box solves it right here and shows the steps. Click an example to try it.

How to type math

  • ^ is a power: x^2, 2^(x + 1). An exponent of more than one symbol goes in brackets.
  • The multiplication sign can be left out: 2x, 3(x - 2), x sin(x).
  • A fraction with more than one symbol above or below the line needs brackets: (x + 1)/(x - 2).
  • sqrt(x) is the square root, cbrt(x) the cube root and |x| the absolute value; pi is π and e is Euler's number.
  • log(x) is the logarithm to base 10, ln(x) the natural logarithm and log_2(x) the logarithm to base 2.
  • Angles in degrees: sin(30°) or sin(30 deg); sin(30) is shown both in degrees and in radians.
  • Decimals are written with a point: 2.5; numbers in a list are separated by commas: 2, 4, 5.
  • On a phone, the row of keys under the box types ^, √, π, |x|, ≤, ≥ and ∫.
  • A misspelt word is put right, and the box says how it read it: derivitive of x^2 is read as derivative of x^2.
