Linear Programming and Optimization: Very Difficult Problems with Solutions

Problem 1
In a metal-structures workshop, bars of length [tex]320[/tex] in ([tex]560[/tex] pieces), [tex]260[/tex] in ([tex]480[/tex] pieces) and [tex]120[/tex] in ([tex]780[/tex] pieces) must be cut. They are cut from standard bars of length [tex]600[/tex] in, of which there are enough in stock. Each piece is cut entirely from one standard bar (pieces are not joined). What is the minimum number of standard bars that must be cut to fill the order?
Problem 2
Consider the integer linear programming problem [tex]\min\ z=3x_1-5x_2+3x_3[/tex] subject to the constraints [tex]x_1-2x_2+x_3\ge 3[/tex], [tex]5x_1-4x_2+2x_3\ge 16[/tex], [tex]2x_1-x_2+x_3=10[/tex], where [tex]x_1, x_2, x_3\ge 0[/tex] are integers. Find the minimum value of [tex]z[/tex].
Problem 3
Two companies [tex]A[/tex] and [tex]B[/tex] transport goods on a highway through Tyrol. To protect the environment, the government allocates [tex]1500[/tex] eco-points to each company. The revenue from one trip across the Alps is [tex]100[/tex] dollars, and the cost of each company for [tex]x[/tex] trips is [tex]K(x)=25x+0.01x^2[/tex] dollars. Company [tex]A[/tex] has new trucks, and each of its trips uses up [tex]1[/tex] eco-point, while company [tex]B[/tex] uses old trucks, and each of its trips uses up [tex]2[/tex] eco-points. The companies decide to cooperate: they pool their [tex]3000[/tex] points and divide the trips between them so that their joint profit is maximal. What is the maximum joint profit (in dollars)?
Problem 4
The polyhedron [tex]S[/tex] consists of all points [tex](x, y, z)[/tex] satisfying the inequalities [tex]x\ge 0,\ y\ge 0,\ z\ge 0[/tex], [tex]x+y+z\le 11[/tex], [tex]2x+4y+3z\le 36[/tex], [tex]2x+3z\le 24[/tex]. How many edges does [tex]S[/tex] have?
