Multiplication Table

The multiplication table shows the product of any two numbers from 1 to 12. To find 7 × 8, take the row of 7 (in the left column) and the column of 8 (in the top row): they meet at 56. Hover over or tap any square to see its fact.

How to Learn the Multiplication Table

You do not need to learn 144 separate facts. The order of the factors does not matter: 7 × 8 = 8 × 7 = 56. So almost every fact appears in the chart twice, once on each side of the green diagonal. The green squares on the diagonal (1, 4, 9, 16, …, 144) are the square numbers: 7 × 7 = 49.

TableShortcutExample
0 Times TableAny number times 0 is 0.9 × 0 = 0
1 Times TableAny number times 1 stays the same.9 × 1 = 9
2 Times TableDouble the number.2 × 8 = 8 + 8 = 16
4 Times TableDouble the number, then double it again.4 × 7 = 28 (7 → 14 → 28)
8 Times TableDouble the number three times.8 × 6 = 48 (6 → 12 → 24 → 48)
10 Times TableWrite a 0 after the number.10 × 7 = 70
5 Times TableMultiply the number by 10 and take half. The answer always ends in 0 or 5.5 × 7 = 35 (70 ÷ 2 = 35)
9 Times TableTake 10 times the number and subtract the number.9 × 7 = 70 − 7 = 63
3 Times TableDouble the number and add the number once more.3 × 7 = 14 + 7 = 21
6 Times TableTake 5 times the number and add the number.6 × 7 = 35 + 7 = 42
11 Times TableFor 1 to 9, write the digit twice.11 × 4 = 44
12 Times TableTake 10 times the number and add 2 times the number.12 × 7 = 70 + 14 = 84
7 Times TableOnce you know all the other tables, only 7 × 7 = 49 is new.7 × 8 = 8 × 7 = 56
