Cali Draws Coordinates

Cali the cat has hidden a picture in the coordinate plane. Find each point from its coordinates, join the points with lines, and the mystery picture appears!

How to play

  • Every point is an ordered pair (x, y). Start at the origin (0, 0), move across to x (right if x is positive, left if it is negative), then up or down to y.
  • Click the first point of Line 1, then the next point: a line appears between them. Keep going point by point. The yellow point in the list is the next one.
  • When the next line starts somewhere else, press Finish line first.
  • Undo removes the last line you drew. You may draw the lines in any order and from either end.
  • Press Check when the picture is complete. A finished level can be played again for more stars.

What is an ordered pair?

Every point in the coordinate plane is named by two numbers in brackets, an ordered pair (x, y). The first number, the x-coordinate, says how far to go along the horizontal x-axis: to the right for a positive number, to the left for a negative one. The second number, the y-coordinate, says how far to go up (positive) or down (negative).

The order matters: (2, 5) is 2 across and 5 up, while (5, 2) is 5 across and 2 up, a different point. Points on the axes have a zero: (4, 0) lies on the x-axis and (0, −3) on the y-axis. The axes meet at the origin (0, 0) and divide the plane into four quadrants.
