Start by getting a common denominator.....
12 will work because....
12 equals 2 times 6
12 equals 3 times 4
12 equals 4 times 3
So 12 is a multiple of 6 and 3 and 4......in fact it is the least common multiple of the denominators so it is called the least common denominator.

The way it is used is to..........
multiply each fraction right across both sides of the equation by 12 and then divide each by the existing denominator of that fraction.
You end up with eliminating the fractions and makes it easy to solve the equation.
