Perhaps you are thinking of the difference of squares ...

a^2 - b^2 = (a+b)(a - b)

does [tex](a+)^2-2ab[/tex] count? :roll: Although it isn't exactly a formula...

Perhaps [tex](a+ bi)(a- bi)= a^2+ b^2[/tex]?
