Seven more than a number is 2 more than four times the number. What is the number?

Let x be the number:

7+x=2+4x

1. Subtract x from both sides to isolate the variable
7=2+3x

2. Subtract 2 from both sides
5=3x

3. Divide both sides by 3
x=[tex]\frac{5}{3}[/tex]
