Hi, can you help with this math question? Confused about the meaning of "or" in question 1 and "and" in question 2.

Q1 Find the number of members who play cricket or football.

Q2 Find the number of members who play cricket and football.

The standard interpretation of "played cricket or football" would be "played criciket or football or both" so I would answer "11+ 5+ 13= 29 people play cricket or football".

If I were concerned about the teacher's interpretation I might say "If the "or" is the "inclusive or" then 29 people played cricket or football or both. If the "or" is the "exclusive or" then 11+ 13= 24 people played cricket or football but not both".'

As for the second problem, 5 people played both cricket and football.
