Determine if a point is inside an ellipse

Hi,
How can I determine if a point (x,y) is on or inside an ellipse?

So if a point has coordinates [tex](x_1, y_1)[/tex] then

[tex]\frac{x_1^2}{a^2} + \frac{y_1^2}{b^2} < 1[/tex]
then the point is inside the ellipse
else it is outside the ellipse.

It is the same as circles.
