Combinations Problem

How many total possible combinations for the following? Sorry, I know it's barely a word problem haha

pick 1 of 2 options from each of 4 categories, then add 1 of 3 other options thereafter. How many total possible combinations? It has been a LONG time since grade 12 math
or phrased a more visual way:

pick 1 from each:
a or b
c or d
e or f
g or h
then add x, y, or z

That's a straight forward problem. If one thing can happen in "x" ways and another in "y" ways, and they are independent, they can happen together in "xy" ways. There are (2)(2)(2)(2)(3)= 2^4(3)= 16(3)= 48 ways to choose here.
