Birds represent what percentage of what? Of the whole group? Is so, since "dogs" are the common factor in the two ratios, imagine that there are 600 dogs. "The ratio of cats to dogs is 7:3" so there are (7/3)(600)= 1400 cats. "The ratio of birds to dogs is 5:6" so there are (5/6)(600)= 500 birds. There are a total of 600+ 1400+ 500= 2500 animals. Birds are [tex]\frac{500}{2500}= 0.20[/tex] or 20% of the animals. Dogs are [tex]\frac{600}{2500}= 0.24[/tex] or 24% of the animals. Cats are [tex]\frac{1400}{2500}= 0.56[/tex] or 56% of the animals.

What grade do you think this would be best suited for?
