Genny spent half her life in Kamloops and one third of her life in Niagara Falls. She lived for 4 years in Toronto. How old is she?

Suppose she is x years.
x/2 years she spent in Kamloops
x/3 she spent in Niagara Falls
x - x/2 - x/3 = last 4 years she lived in Toronto

[tex]x - \frac{x}{2 } - \frac{x}{3 } = 4[/tex]

[tex]\frac{6x}{6} - \frac{3x}{6} - \frac{2x}{6} = 4[/tex]

[tex]\frac{6x}{6} - \frac{3x}{6} - \frac{2x}{6} = 4[/tex]

[tex]\frac{x}{6}= 4[/tex]

[tex]x = 24[/tex]

Let us say she is n years old.
She spent half her life in Kamloops, so (1/2) * n years in Kamloops.
And one third of her life in Niagara Falls, so (1/3) * n years in Niagara Falls.
She lived for 4 years in Toronto.

Thus we have
n = (1/2) * n + (1/3) * n + 4
(6/6)*n = (1/2) * (3/3) * n + (1/3) * (2/2) * n + 4 * (6/6)
(6n)/6 = (3/6) * n + (2/6)*n + 24/6
(6n)/6 = (3n + 2n + 24) / 6

Divide by 6 on both sides
6n = 3n + 2n + 24
6n - 3n - 2n = 24
n = 24

Answer: Genny is 24 years old.
