Find Present Age

Find Present Age

Postby nycmath » Fri Sep 11, 2026 6:41 am

A boy is 10 years older than his brother. In 4 years he will be twice as old as his brother. Find the present age of each.

Let x + 10 = boy's present age

Let y = brother's present age

(x + 10) + 4 = boy's age 4 years from now

x + 4 = brother's age 4 years from now

My equation setup is:

(x + 10) + 4 = 2(x + 4)

You say?

Yes, your set-up is correct. Here is another feasible method.
