To be able to show your maths prowess & talents you need to be able to apply your mathematical skills in everyday situations and problem solving. Being able to do things or work things out when some of your friends maybe cannot. Some people may be well educated in other subjects but when it comes to everyday counting, calculations, measurements and analysis they cannot understand the basic reasoning or logical thinking to enable them to solve many simple problems. The school curriculum should place more emphasis on "Applied Mathematics" which teaches the student how to apply the mathematical skills they have learned to practical situations dealing with everyday tasks associated with the environment, home and industry, commerce, finance etc.
