A vehicle has a hole in the bottom of it's fuel tank that is leaking fuel at 1.5 gal. per hr. The veh. starts with 10 gal. (full tank), averaging 60 mph until it runs out of fuel. Average fuel consumption is 30 mpg (without losses from the leak). Calculate distance traveled before the veh. runs out of fuel. Thanks.

Leak 1.5 gal per hour at 60 mph = 1/40 gal per mile
Car burns 1/30 gal per mile
Ratio Leak : Burns = 3 : 4
Car with 10 gal burns [10 x (4 / 7)]gal x 30mpg = 171.43 miles
