Dice or coin with three sides

Postby Guest » Mon Jan 14, 2019 5:52 pm

Hi,

If I had a well balanced three sided coin, and I flipped it four times, then I believe that the probability of doing so without side 1 coming up for any of the four flips would be 1 in 12.
Is this correct?

If N is the number of times that a three sided coin is flipped, then what is the equation for the probability that side 1 will appearing at least once during N flips?

thanks

answer = 1 - p(side 1 never comes up) = [tex]\boxed{1-\left(\frac{2}{3}\right)^n}[/tex]
