For every n ∈ N and k odd, is it true that

[tex]2^{n+2}[/tex] divides [tex]a_n = k^{2n} - 1[/tex]?

In your first post you didn't ask for a proof, just whether or not it was true! Please tell us what you really want to know in your first post. We can't read your mind!

In the very first response, eternal suggested using the binomial theorem. Do you know what that is?
