I am having trouble with the above problem...any solutions or hints factoring this?

There is a formula written here, not a "problem". What do you wish to do with the formula? Do you want to factor it? If so, the first thing I see is that the coefficient of every term is even so I can factor out a "2": 4a^2 b^3+2ab-6ab^2= 2(2a^2b^3+ ab- 3ab^2.
Next, I see that there is a "b" in every term so we can factor that out: 2b(2a^2b^22- a- 3ab).
Next, I see that there is an "a" in every term so we can factor that out: 2ab(2ab^2+ 1+ 3b).
