It's hard to understand what you are asking. Parentheses might help! When you write "3whole no 1/2" do you mean "3 and a half", [tex]3\frac{1}{2}[/tex]? That was my first thought but then you have "1 7/8" rather than "1 whole no 7/8"! And what do you mean by the "/" immediately after "1/2"? Is that indicate a division? But then you also say "divide by"!
