Point B the midpoint of [tex]\overline{AC}[/tex]
[tex]\overline{AB}[/tex]=[tex]\overline{BC}[/tex]
[tex]\overline{AB}[/tex]=5(x-3)
[tex]\overline{BC}[/tex]=9-x

Substitute in the values for [tex]\overline{AB}[/tex] and [tex]\overline{BC}[/tex]
5(x-3)=9-x

Use the distributive property:
5x-15=9-x
6x-15=9
6x=24
x=4
[tex]\overline{AB}[/tex]=[tex]\overline{BC}[/tex]=5
