Help really needed on forming this inequality

Help really needed on forming this inequality

Postby Guest » Mon Mar 10, 2014 3:59 am

Hi everyone!

I really, really need help on this pretty simple problem.

Form this inequality: There cannot be more than 3 children's tickets sold for every adult ticket sold

This was my solution (which was wrong): Letting x be the number of children tickets and y be the number of adult tickets, then 3x[tex]\le[/tex]y

Thank you for your help!

If [tex]y=1[/tex] then [tex]x\leq 3[/tex] (there cannot be more than 3 children's tickets sold if one adult ticket was sold).
If [tex]y=2[/tex] then [tex]x\leq 6[/tex].
If [tex]y=3[/tex] then [tex]x\leq 9[/tex].
etc.
So the inequality is [tex]x\leq 3y[/tex].

Hope this helped,

R. Baber.
