For this function to be harmonic, [tex]\frac{\partial^2u}{\partial x^2}+\frac{\partial^2u}{\partial y^2}=0\Rightarrow6ax+12x=0\Rightarrow x(a+2)=0[/tex] and this is true [tex]\forall x[/tex]. So, [tex]\boxed{a=-2}[/tex].
