A toy baseball bat comes 3 plastic balls. The balls are in a box that is rectangular solid. The box is just big enough to hold the 3 balls. Te radius of the balls is 1.4 inches each. What is the volume of air in the box surrounding the balls?

Draw a picture! Since it is 2 dimensional it will be three circles enclosed in a rectangle. The length of that rectangle is the sum of the three diameters. If every ball (circle) has radius 1.4 in what is the diameter of each ball? What would 3 diameters be (the length of the box). The width and height of the box is just the diameter of one ball. So what is the volume of the box?

What is the volume of one ball? So what is the total volume of three balls? How much space does that leave for air in the box?

All you have to do is find the difference between the volume of the box and the volume of the three balls
