The determinant of the matrix is -3 * 4 - (2+2i)*(2-2i) = -12 - (4-4i2) = -12 - 8 = -20
Have in mind that i2 = -1

It would be nice if you would just do enough to indicate that you knew what "echelon form" meant!!

"Echlon form" for the 2 by 2 matrix [tex]\begin{pmatrix}a & b \\ c & d\end{pmatrix}[/tex] is something like [tex]\begin{pmatrix}x & y \\ 0 & z\end{pmatrix}[/tex].

We get that by "row operations. Here, because 2- 2i= 2(1- i), add 2/3 of the top row to the second row.

That gives [tex]\begin{pmatrix}-3 & 2+ 2i \\ 0 & \frac{16}{3}- \frac{4}{3}i\end{pmatrix}[/tex].

Since the last row is not "0 0", the rank of the matrix is 2.

To get "echelin form" for a 2 by 2 matrix all you need to do is get "0" in the second row, first column. Here there is 2- 2i there so we want to subtract 2- 2i. We need to get that by multiplying the first row by something. Since there is a "3" in the first row, first column we need to subtract [tex]\frac{2- 2i}{3}= \frac{2}{3}- \frac{2}{3}i[/tex].

[tex]\frac{2- 2i}{3}[/tex] times 3 is, of course, 2- 2i and subtracting that from the 2- 2i in the second row is 0. [tex]\frac{2- 2i}{3}[/tex] times 2+ 2i is [tex]\frac{(2- 2i)(2+ 2i)}{3}= \frac{4+ 4}{3}= \frac{8}{3}[/tex] and subtracting 8/3 from 4 is 4- 8/3= 12/3- 8/3= 4/3.

The echelon matrix is
[tex]\begin{bmatrix} -3 & 2+ 2i \\ 0 & \frac{4}{3} \end{bmatrix}[/tex]

¡Hola!

A' = 1 -2/3-2i
2-2i 4

A' = 1 -2/3-2i
0 8/3+2i

A'' = 1 -2/3-2i
0 1

¡Buena suerte!
