To an account 1/5 is added annually, but at the end of the year, \$2500 is deducted for expenses. At the end of the 3rd year, when the last \$2500 is deducted, account has 1 7/10 of original. Determine original amount.

x = original amt.

x + 1/5

$7500 total deducted.

Not sure how to solve.

x - original amount
End of 1st year: [tex]x+\frac{1}{5}x-2500[/tex]
End of 2nd year: [tex](x+\frac{1}{5}x - 2500) + \frac{1}{5}(x+\frac{1}{5}x - 2500) - 2500[/tex]
End of 3rd year: [tex](x+\frac{1}{5}x - 2500) + \frac{1}{5}(x+\frac{1}{5}x - 2500) - 2500 + \frac{1}{5}((x+\frac{1}{5}x - 2500) + \frac{1}{5}(x+\frac{1}{5}x - 2500) - 2500) - 2500[/tex]

We need to solve
[tex](x+\frac{1}{5}x - 2500) + \frac{1}{5}(x+\frac{1}{5}x - 2500) - 2500 + \frac{1}{5}((x+\frac{1}{5}x - 2500) + \frac{1}{5}(x+\frac{1}{5}x - 2500) - 2500) - 2500 = \frac{17}{10}x[/tex]
