Weight

The specific gravity of petroleum is .8. Determine weight of 1000 gal.

Specific gravity is the ratio between weight of the substance and weight of an equal volume of water.

Water weighs 8.34 lbs. per gal.

My attempt:

8.34 * .8 = 6.672 * 1000 = 6672 lbs.

Where am I incorrect?

I think that this is the right way to calculate it:

[tex]\frac{8.34}{8} = \frac{x}{1000}[/tex]

x = 8340:8
x = 1042.5
