Volume of Hot Tub

Postby Guest » Tue Feb 23, 2016 4:30 pm

A hot tub has the following description:

Round in shape.

2' 5" High

5' 6" Wide

6' 5" Depth

Weight : 244 lbs.

Determine volume.

I have attached a picture.

Volume of cylinder: pi * r^2 * h

3.1416 * 2.75 * 2.75 * 6.416 = 152.43 cu. ft.

152.43 * 7.48 = 1140 gal.

Where am I correct ?

Also, I have a question: Why are 2 different dimensions given for the height and depth ? I thought height and depth are the same.

The two dimensions for height and depth are given because the height of a hot tub is measured from outside of the tub which is from floor to the end of the height but the depth is measured from the inner side of the tub.

Funny........I don't think your assumptions are correct.??......that would leave the inner base surface 4 feet below ground...??... 2.5 - 6.5 = -4 feet.

A hot tub has the following description:

Round in shape.

2' 5" High

5' 6" Wide

6' 5" Depth

Weight : 244 lbs.

Determine volume.
................................................
My assumptions.......
Height....the overall height from ground to top rim is 2 ft 5 inches.
The width is the width of the outer rim of the circular bit, that is 5 ft 6 inches
The depth is the depth or distance from the front edge of the lower step to the back of the circular bit. and that is 6 ft 5 inches.
So the distance the steps project in front of the circular tub is 11 inches.......
I hope this makes more sense................................

It does.

From your assumptions:

Volume = pi * r^2 * h

3.1416 * 2.75 * 2.75 * 2.5 = 59.395 = 59 cu. ft.

59 * 7.48 (cu. ft. to gal.) = 441.32 = 441 gal.

Correct ?

Yes, correct. assuming its is the outside dimensions that are given there will be a slight discrepancy of the internal volume due the thickness of the sides and base, but no info was given for these.

Thanks.

No info provided in description for thickness of sides and base.
