Amount - Total

Postby Guest » Mon Aug 17, 2015 1:38 am

Two trunks are used to store books. The trunks are two sizes - large and small. The large can hold twice as many books as the small and the small holds 14 books. Determine amount of books that can be placed in both trunks.

Let L = large trunk.
Let S = small trunk.

L = 2S
S = 14

14 * 2 = 28

That is not correct. Where did I miscalculate ? Thanks.

Let L = large trunk.
Let S = small trunk.
Total = L + S

L = 2S

S = 14

So L = 2 * 14 = 28

Total books ..... L + S = 28 + 14 = 42 books
