Dimensions - Box

Postby Guest » Sat Jul 11, 2015 3:31 pm

A box has dimensions that are in proportions of 2:3:4. The volume of box is 3000 cu. in. Determine the dimensions of the box.

Volume - Length x Width x Height (Depth).

L x W x H = 3000.

How do I continue ?

Sides are 2x, 3x and 4x

[tex]2x \cdot 3x \cdot 4x = 3000[/tex]

[tex]2\cdot 3 \cdot 4 \cdot x^3 = 3000[/tex]

[tex]2\cdot 4 \cdot x^3 = 1000[/tex]
[tex]4 \cdot x^3 = 500[/tex]

[tex]x^3 = 125[/tex]

[tex]x = 5[/tex]

So sides are: 2x = 10
3x = 15
4x = 20

Why did you first divide by 3, then 2 ?
