3.12. Simplify:

a)2[tex](x y^{-3 }) ^{-2 }[/tex][tex](4x^{-3 }y² )^{-1 }[/tex]

b)[tex](\frac{3x³ y^{-2 } }{2x y^{-5 } })^{-2 }[/tex]

a)2[tex](x y^{-3 }) ^{-2 }[/tex][tex](4x^{-3 }y² )^{-1 }[/tex]
=([tex]x^{-2 }[/tex]y⁶)([tex]\frac{1}{4}[/tex]x³[tex]y^{-2 }[/tex])

=[tex]\frac{1}{4}[/tex]*xy⁴

=[tex]\frac{xy⁴}{4}[/tex]

b)[tex](\frac{3x³ y^{-2 } }{2x y^{-5 } })^{-2 }[/tex]

=[tex]\frac{2x y^{-5 } }{3x³ y^{-2 } } ^{2 }[/tex]

=[tex]\frac{4x² y^{-10 } }{9x⁶ y^{-4} }[/tex]

=[tex]\frac{4}{9x⁴y⁶}[/tex]
