Amount - Water

A water faucet with a 1/4 " continuous drip over a 3 month period wastes a large amount of water. Determine amount of water wasted.

How do I proceed ? Just curious.

The water is at 60 PSI pressure.

A drip is a droplet occurring at a regular or irregular interval.
What is a 1/4" continuous drip......is it a continuous flow of 1/4" diameter...???

What is the shape of the drip and the interval..................

The flowrate in metre cubed per second will be the Area of flow in square metres x Velocity of flow in metres per second.
That will give a quantity of cubic metres per second. Then you work out the number od seconds in 3 months and multiply the quantity per second x the numbers of seconds in 3 months. If you are going to work in metres then you need to convert the 1/4" to metres.

What are "customary" units.................
The fundamental physical quantities for measurement and analysis are length, mass and time......whatever the units.
Most nowadays can adopt to or can work with the metric system.......
The metric syatem for science and engineering uses the MKS or metre-killogramme-second system of basic units.
We are now in the age of global communication, so International recognition of units is important. The System of International Units (SI System) which is similar to MKS in many respects tries to bring that together.

My answer in metric units is approx 7000 cu. metres in period of 3 months or a wee bit more.........

1/4 " = .020833 feet

seconds in 3 months = 7776000


I'm confused from here.

use your own compatible units

find the area of the 1/4" hole.
Find how fast the water is flowing....velocity
multiply the area x velocity to get the flowrate of water flowing.....units depend on the units you are using
Time is 3 month period....depending on the units you use....may be seconds, minutes , hours

How did you calculate it??
What is your method os solving the whole problem??
Did you read the earlier postings...
They described a method on how to solve.....
The method will be the same...no matter what units....
Find the area of the flow,
Find the velocity of flow
Multiply together to get quantity per unit of time
Multiply by the actual time 3 months

How did you calculate it?? Area of circle since the opening uses diameter.
What is your method os solving the whole problem?? I don't know.

How did you calculate it?? Area of circle since the opening uses diameter. did you use the formula for area of a circle pi x d x d /4

Find the area of the flow, This is the bit you have found
Find the velocity of flow" I don't know the steps. The velocity is how fast the water is flowing and will depend on the pressure.
Same idea as if you drop a stone from top of a building when it hits the ground the potential energy it had at the top will be converted into velocity energy.
Read up on Bernouli equation for flow of liquids. and use their formulae.
Then velocity x area gives flowrate
flowrate x time gives quantity
whether it is cubic feet or cubic metres depends on the units you are using
