Height- Staircase Steps

Postby Guest » Fri Sep 26, 2014 11:40 pm

There are a total of 45 steps of a certain height in a staircase. If the steps had been constructed 1 inch higher, only 40 steps would be in the staircase. Determine height of steps.

Let H = Height

How do I proceed ?

H = original height of each step 45 steps
H+1 = new height of each step 40 steps

45H = 40(H+1)
45H = 40H + 40
5H = 40
H = 8 old steps height
H + 1 = 9 = new steps height
