An apple tree yielded a good crop.

Day 1- The owner traded half of the apples harvested for other fruits and consumed 4 apples.

Day 2- Traded half of remaining apples for some vegetables and consumed 3 apples.

Day 3- Consumed 1 apple and gave half of remaining apples to relatives. Owner had 5 apples left.

Calculate original amount of apples. Thank you.

Let X equal original amount

Day1 left with (0.5X - 4)
Day2 left with [0.5(0.5X - 4) - 3] = (0.25X - 5)
Day3 then -1 = (0.25X - 6) then left with 0.5(0.25X - 6) = (0.125X - 3) and this equals 5
So........0.125X = 8
Then....... X = 64 original apples
