Speed

Postby Guest » Tue Feb 18, 2014 12:12 am

The world's fastest jet truck covers a quarter mile in 6.5 seconds. Calculate speed of the truck.

My solution:

Formula used : rate x time = distance distance / time = speed

6.5 sec. / 3600 sec. (hr.) = .00180555 hr.

.25 mile / .00180555 hr. = 138.46 mph.

That seems to be too slow for that type vehicle. Where did I make the error(s) ?

Thank you.

Maybe it wasn't going at full speed................

Maybe just cruising...............

May just starting from a standing start..............

Maybe in the process of stopping....................

Maybe it crashed and too 0.25 miles to get stopped
