An annual salary is $45,000 after a 15% raise. Calculate salary before the increase.

My solution:

$45,000 * 15 % = $6,750.

$45,000 - $6,750 = $38,250.

That is not correct. Where did I make the error(s) ?

Thanks for your assistance.

45000 is your salary now includes the 100% orig plus 15% increase on the original so it must now be 115% of the original.
To get back to the original, divide by 115 and multiply by 100

45000 divided by 115 equals 391.304, this is 1% of your original salary
so multiply by 100 to get 100% of original salary, 391.304 x 100 = 39130.....
.......and forget about the cents..........

...............Simple................
