Are you actually making a bookcase..??
There is not enough information in the question to give a definitive solution.
I assumed it was made by two uprights with 4 shelves in between.
So the actual overall width will be the width of the shelves plus the thickness of the two uprights...
We don't know the thickness of the wood.
Let W = width of shelves
Then height is (W + 3)
and......Let T = thickness of wood......according to my design...
So... 4W + 2(W + 3) = 30
4W + 2W + 6 = 30
6W = 24
W = 4
So...height is (W + 3) = 7
and Actual width will be 4 + 2T
Dimensions are..... (4 + 2T) feet wide by 7 feet high
