Adding and Subtracting up to 100: Very Difficult Problems with Solutions
Problem 1 sent by yunsal
(40 + 51) - (41 + 32) =
Solution:
(40 + 51)-(41 + 32) = 91 - 73 = 18
Problem 2
28 + 18 - (33 - 18) =
Solution:
28 + 18 - (33 - 18) = 46 - (33 - 18) = 46 - 15 = 31
Problem 3
John has $32. Mary has $13 less than John. Ivo has $9 more than them both. How much money does Ivo have?
Solution:
Mary has $32 - $13 = $19.
Ivo has 9 + John's money + Mary's money = 9 + 32 + 19 = 41 + 19 = 60.
Problem 4
One gentleman loved animals. He had three dogs and five times more cats. His parrots were 3 more than his dogs and cats. How many animals did the gentleman have?
Solution:
The gentleman has 3 ⋅ 5 = 15 cats.
He has 3 + 15 = 18 dogs and cats.
18 + 3 = 21 parrots.
18 + 21 = 39 all animals.
