You are required to run a cable underneath a parabolic arch structure from one end of it to the other
along the ground. Standing in between the arches, the left side of the arch is 5 ft. away from you
and the right arch is 10 ft. away from you. This parabolic shape has an a value of-1

a. Find the equation of this parabola, where y is the height in ft. above the ground and x is ft. in
either direction from you.
b. How far away are you standing from being right in the middle of the structure?
c. Find the height of the tallest part of this structure.

d. What are the two heights of this structure that are 1 ft. from where you are standing?

"This parabolic shape has an a value of-1"

What does this mean? What is the "value" of a "parabolic shape"?

"b", at least, is easy. If you are 5 feet from one base and 10 feet from the other then the distance between the bases is 5+ 10= 15 feet. The mid point is 15/2= 7.5 feet from either base. Since you are 5 feet from one base, you are 7.5- 5= 2.5 feet from the center.
