Length of Wire

Postby Guest » Thu May 18, 2017 12:01 am

A cubical piece of iron 3 inches on a side is formed into a wire 1/32 in. in diameter. Determine wire length.

Pi = 3.1416

Volume of cube = 27 cu. in.

Wire is a cylinder- pi * r^2 * height (or length).

3.1416 * 0.015625 * 0.0156125 * l = 27. Volume of iron = volume of wire.

0.00765765490875l = 27

0.00765765490875l / 0.00765765490875 = 27 / 0.00765765490875

l = 3525.8836 = 3526 ft. = 39072 in.

Where am I correct?

Error in calculation;

0.0007669921875 = 27

0.0007669921875l / 0.0007669921875 = 27 / 0.0007669921875

l = 35202.44 in. = 2933.53705 = 2934 ft.

$\frac{1}{32}*\frac{1}{32}*pi*l = 27$
l=27*32*32/pi

l= 27 * 32 * 32/pi

l = 86858.9568 = 86859 ft. = 1042308 in.

What part is correct?
