What is energy?

What is energy?

Postby Guest » Thu Jun 27, 2019 4:30 pm

Energy is central to existence. But what is it exactly? Energy has diverse forms and is conserved in ideal closed systems...

"It is important to realize that in physics today, we have no knowledge of what energy is. We do not have a picture that energy comes in little blobs of a definite amount. It is not that way. However, there are formulas for calculating some numerical quantity and when we add it together it gives “28″—always the same number. It is an abstract thing in that it does not tell us the mechanisms or the reasons for the various formulas." -- R. P. Feynman.

Energy is a manifestation of a system, opened or closed, acting on itself, globally or locally. And therefore, it or its subsystems can be modeled mathematically... David Hilbert had stated there's a need to postulate fundamental axioms about the system's existence and about the system's nature over time and over space. Please refer to the following links for some insights on how we may proceed with the modeling of any physical system.

Some Food for Thought:

"Science is an adventure of the human spirit. It is essentially an artistic enterprise, stimulated largely by curiosity, served largely by disciplined imagination, and based largely on faith in the reasonableness, order, and beauty of the universe." -- Warren Weaver.

Some Food for Thought:

"Scientists predict the behavior of a complex system by developing a model of its inputs, throughputs (flows) of matter, energy, or information, and outputs of matter, energy, and information."

Energy is the source of everything possible. And it is everywhere... Now, please consider the following story.

It doesn’t generate much power, but it works during the one time of day that solar cells can’t: night.',
