Given: 1/2 or 1:2
Solve: 1/3 /x or 1/3:x

Set up the ratio

1/2 = 1/3 /x

Cross-multiply:

Yet another way: Since the ratio of rice to water is 1 to 2 you use twice as much water as rice.
